COURSE HISTORY
Waterkloof Golf Club has a proud history that dates back to 5 May 1969, when it was first established as the Oudstudente Gholfklub. In its early days, the club had no home course and hosted tournaments at nearby venues, with the very first event played on 31 May 1969 at the Pretoria Golf Club.
The club’s first general meeting took place on 8 May 1969, where the annual membership fee was set at just R3 per member.
Shortly after, a letter was sent to the City Council to request land for a permanent home, a site description that matches the club’s current location. Approval for the development of a course and clubhouse at this location was granted by the Pretoria City Council on 19 November 1970.

The course was designed and built by Player, Brews and Vincent (Pty) Ltd, with construction beginning in 1976. The course opened for play on 1 January 1978, with only three members teeing off that day.

The official opening ceremony was held on 9 September 1978, attended by Dr Piet Koornhof, and the club’s first championship followed shortly after on 14 October 1978, where A.M. Loubscher became the inaugural club champion.
Over the years, the club’s name evolved, first to Oostelikes Gholfklub in February 1978, then to Monument Golf Club in March 1980. In 2004, renowned designer Peter Matkovich redesigned the course, ushering in a new era and the name we proudly carry today, Waterkloof Golf Club.
